About the Innkeepers
Your hosts at Farnsworth House are Jon Perry and William Woodcock. We are
transplants from the Buffalo NY, area and moved to the teeming Metropolis of
East Run, pop. 16, in the fall of 1994.
William works in Monroeville, a suburb of Pittsburgh, at a very fine
interior design firm called Todays Home. As a result the Farnsworth House
has a distinct designers touch. William is also responsible for the
landscaping projects and great pasta in the kitchen. His interests also
include his antique car collection, as of this writing the newest addition
to the group is a 1925 Franklin, model 11. This is of particular interest
as it has an air-cooled engine and was considered a luxury car of its day.
The owner's manual suggests that to obtain maximum economy one should
average the top speed between 20 and 30 mph. Another more practical car is
a 1953 Chrysler New Yorker in wonderful running order, he sometimes drives
it to work. We are seriously considering adding a 1947 Plymouth to the
collection for Jon to drive.
Jon has been in the Piano restoration business for about 20 years. The
specialty of his work is that he works on what is called "reproducing
pianos". These were very special pianos in that they reperformed a piano
piece just as if the artist were there playing it. Most of the
"reproducing pianos" worked on here are grands and are therefore very
beautiful and tonally superior. Along with the Welte-Mignon, Ampico, and Duo-Art we also work on regular
upright and grand pianos.
He has worked with some great people in the piano world, Jeffery Depp gave
him his start and John Farnsworth was a wonderful mentor. A visit to
Farnsworth House will truly amaze and inspire both the musical and
self-professed non-musical.
