NAVINI NETWORKS LAUNCHES PCMCIA WIDE AREA WIRELESS BROADBAND MODEM CARD
Wireless Broadband Leaves the Building: High Speed Data for Miles Instead of Feet
SCOTTSDALE, AZ AND RICHARDSON, Texas – February 17, 2003 – Today at Demo
2003, Navini Networks, Inc., the leading provider of zero-install™ nomadic
wireless broadband technology, launched and demonstrated its new PCMCIA wide
area wireless broadband card. In another industry first, Navini’s PCMCIA card
will enable mobile data users the ultimate in uninterrupted broadband access
anywhere in the coverage area.
“The Navini PCMCIA card will offer laptop users, and eventually PDA fans,
true mobility,” said Alastair Westgarth, president and chief executive of
Navini. “This is broadband speed without wires and a tremendous range -- no
longer do you have to be tethered to a desk or an office environment to have
broadband access. Our customers will be able to enjoy a user-friendly experience
of high speed Internet access wherever they are – just as we enjoy using our
cell phones today wherever we are.”
“Navini’s WAN PCMCIA card is the equivalent of cellular 3G or a WiFi PCMCIA
card on steroids. We are transforming the high speed Internet experience from
the matter of a couple of hundred feet from an access point to miles from a base
station,” he added.
While the current Navini Ripwave™ system includes small, lightweight desktop
modems, the new Navini PCMCIA card further extends mobility and ease-of-use
functionality. The current Navini Ripwave CPE, made commercially available in
early 2002, operates in the 2.3 GHz WCS, 2.4 GHz ISM, 2.5/2.6 GHz MMDS spectrum,
and 3.5 GHz WLL spectrums, and is already used by thousands of people around the
world. The new PCMCIA card is one more step in Navini’s product roadmap and
takes the company closer toward its vision of fully mobile wide area broadband
and seamless wireless Internet access.
Navini will begin shipping the wide area PCMCIA modem card to customers in
the first half of 2003.
